Calcified pieces of seaweed shaken loose by ocean currents are found in “maerl beds” on the ocean floor. Calcified seaweed is a key ingredient in Nutrilite™ Cal Mag D. It contains naturally occurring sources of calcium, magnesium and many other minerals!

We didn’t choose it for its color, but we do like purple! The nutrient-rich species growing wild off the coast of Iceland is one of the only algae that deposits calcium in quantities large enough to harvest, and it’s hearty enough to survive the harsh environment of Iceland.

Everything our supplier in Iceland does is focused on purity, safety and effectiveness – that includes their product, continuous research, and environmental stewardship. They have third-party verification of their practices, including our NutriCert™ stamp of approval!

The Icelandic maerl beds are naturally occurring and plentiful. But understanding the regeneration rate is key to a healthy supply. Our supplier works with the Icelandic Marine Research Institute to ensure they are respecting the marine environment.

Our partner supplier has a license to mine seaweed, and its vessels are always checked for cleanliness before harvest. They keep careful GPS location records to prevent overharvesting.

After harvest, the seaweed is collected, washed, dried and milled. The result is a powder that is sent to our Amway facilities to be transformed into Nutrilite™ tablets.

Our detailed requirements for raw material receiving helps us control for potential contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides, foreign material, irradiation, and microbes.

Packaging documentation for every product that leaves our doors includes: item produced, production date, batch code, quantity and identity of raw materials used, equipment used, and employees involved in executing each critical step.
